                                     Relating to Exemptions Under Section 27156
                                                of the Vehicle Code

                                            JAM ENGINEERING CORPORATION

                           JAM CARBURETOR CONVERSION KIT NO. C—505 USING OHE (1) MODIFIED
                                  HOLLEY MODEL NO. 4360C, LIST NO. 8677 CARBURETOR

                 Pursuant to the authority vested in the Air Resources Board by Section 27156
                 of the Vehicle Code; and

                 Pursuant to the authority vested in the undersigned by Section 39515 and
                 39516 of the Health and Safety Code and Executive Order G—45—5;

                 IT IS ORDERED AND RESOLVED:      That the installation of the JAM
                 carburetor conversion kit number C—505 manufactured by JAM Engineering
                 Corporation has been found not to reduce the effectiveness of
                 required motor vehicle pollution control devices, and, therefore is
                 exempt from the prohibitions of Section 27156 of the Vehicle Code for
                 1973—1976 Mercedes—Benz 280, 280c and 280s vehicles originally equipped with
                 a Solex 4A1 carburetor.

             ‘The following modifications to the oriqinal equipment exhaust emission
              control system are permitted:                                                          L2

                      1)    The throttle positioner {dashpot) may be removed.

os           s        3)    The vacuum operated float chamber vent valve is substituted with a
nemmnna~ —                  mechanical float chamber vent vailve.

                      4)    Vacuum hose routing may be changed, as specified in the device
                            installation instructions.

                      5)    The 1975—1976 Mercedes—Benz (MBZ) carburetor base plate gasket will
                            be utilized on the applicable vehicles.  This modification
                            eliminates the E.G.R. function as the slots in the MBZ gasket for
                            controlling the exhaust gas return are eliminated.

                 This exemption shall not apply to ény device, apparatus, or mechanism
                 advertised,   offered for sale or sold with,   or installed on,   a motor vehicle
                 prior to or concurrent with transfer to an ultimate purchaser.

                 This Executive Order is valid provided that installation instructions for
                 this device system will not recommend tuning the vehicle to specifications
                 different from those submitted by the system manufacturer.

     4           Changes made to the design or operating conditions of the device, as exempt
                 by the Air Resources Board, that adversely affect the performance of a
                 vehicle‘s pollution control system shall invalidate this Executive Order.

                         Marketing of this device using an identification other than that shown in
                         this Executive Order or marketing of this device for as application other
                         than those listed in this Executive Order shall be prokibited unless prior
                         approval is obtained from the Air Resources Board.  Exemption of a kit shall
                         not be construed as an exemption to sell, offer for sale, or advertise any
                         component of the product as an individual device.

                         This Executive Order does not constitute any opinion as to the effect that
                         the use of this turbocharger system may have on any warranty either
                         expressed or implied by the vehicle manufacturer.

                        THIS EXECUTIVE ORDER DOES NOT CONSTITUTE A CERTIFICATIOH, ACCREDITATION,
                        APPROVAL, OR ANY OTHER TYPE OF ENDORSEMENT BY THE AIR EESOURCES BOARD OF ANY
                        CLAIMS OF THE APPLICANT CONCERNING ANTI—POLLUTION BENEFITS OR ANY ALLECED
                        BENEFITS OF THE JAM ENGINEERING CORPORATION‘S CARBURETOR CONVERSION KIT
                        NUMEER C—505 FOR INSTALLATION ON 1973—1976 MODEL—YEAR KERCEDES BENZ 280,
                        280C AND 2805 MODEL VEHICLES.

                        No claim of any kind, such as "Approved by the Air Resources Board" may be
                        made with respect to the action taken herein in any advertising or other
                        oral or written communications.

                        Violation of any of the above conditions shall be grousds for revocation of
                        this order.  The order may be revoked only after ten day written notice of
                        intention to revoke the order,                          in which period the holder of the order may
                        request in writing a hearing to contest the proposed revocation.  If a
                        hearing is requested, it shall be held within ten days of receipt of the   a—
                        request and the order may not be revoked until a detersination after hearing
                        that grounds for revocation exist.

                      Executive Order D—157—2, dated May 9,                                   1986 is superseded and of no further
