1991-2006 4-stroke, turbocharged diesel engines with horsepower ratings between 100 and 950; the engines must be certified to 0.25 g/bhp-hr or lower PM standardThe exemption applies to engines originally certified with a diesel oxidation catalyst but does not apply to any engines originally certified with other after treatment emission control systems such as a diesel particulate filter or a selective catalytic reduction system. The exemption is valid provided the engines meet the following operating conditions: (1) the engine exhaust temperature is greater than 200 degrees Celsius for at least 15 percent of the typical duty cycle and (2) the engine is operated using ultra-low sulfur diesel with maximum sulfur content of 15 part per million by weight.
